OUR STORY SO FAR
Community Energy Moray was originally formed in response to the energy company EDF Renewables UK offering, via their development partner Force9 Energy, the opportunity to make an investment in the proposed 48 turbine Clash Gour Wind Farm project, through a single organisation to be created for this purpose. The offer is extended to all communities of Moray, plus three community council areas in east Nairnshire. Details of the proposed Clash Gour wind farm can be seen on Force 9 Energy’s dedicated webpage http://www.force9energy.com/projects/current/clash-gour
In May 2019 a day-long conference called ‘Energising Communities’, jointly organised by Moray LEADER and the Joint Community Councils of Moray, was held in the Town Hall in Elgin to discuss this investment opportunity.
Following this, a steering group was set up to take the idea of creating this new vehicle forward, and a number of public events were held to publicise this work. Ultimately this resulted in the formation of Community Energy Moray.
EDF Renewables UK has set out a Memorandum of Understanding, a document which sets out principles, or ‘heads of terms’ between parties, which is intended as a framework for a more detailed, legally binding, agreement, explaining how community investment in the Clash Gour wind farm would work. Twelve community councils and other local organisations have so far signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
These are:
- Heldon Community Council
- Forres Community Council
- Elgin Community Council
- Lossiemouth Community Council
- Cullen and Deskford Community Council
- Finderne Community Council
- Knockando Community Trust
- Finderne Development Trust
- Forres Area Community Trust
- tsiMoray
- Transition Town Forres
- Ekopia Social Investments
Clash Gour wind farm received consent from Scottish Ministers in October 2022. The project will be built, owned and operated by EDF Renewables UK.
